Eaton Sits in Its Own Shire, and That Trips People Up
Eaton belongs to the Shire of Dardanup. Not Bunbury, not Harvey. Cross the Collie River and you’re in a different council area again.
That matters more than it should. Providers who organise their rosters around City of Bunbury boundaries treat Eaton as an edge case, and providers built around Australind and the Shire of Harvey do the same from the other direction. Eaton residents end up making two phone calls to get one answer.
We don’t work off council maps. Our office sits at Dalyellup, our workers run the Bunbury to Australind corridor most days, and Eaton sits in the middle of that route. Simple as that.
Worth noting the scale, too. Eaton counted 8,669 residents at the 2021 Census, which makes it one of the largest communities in the South-West outside Bunbury and Busselton. Not one provider has written a dedicated Eaton page. That tells you how much attention the suburb gets.
What Local Access Means for Your Plan
Eaton has more within reach than most South-West suburbs, and a good plan should use that.
Eaton Fair puts shops, services and meeting places within a short drive or a supported walk, which changes what community participation looks like day to day. Eaton Community College and the local primary schools mean school-leaver and transition supports stay close to home. Bunbury Regional Hospital sits roughly fifteen minutes away, so nursing follow-ups and discharge planning rarely need a long trip (WA Country Health Service).
The demand behind all this is real. NDIA quarterly data records 5,502 active NDIS participants across the WA South West service district as at 31 March 2026, with 195 using Supported Independent Living supports (NDIS Quarterly Report 2025-26 Q3).
